Great Class with Seth Apter

Today I spent the day with Seth Apter at A Work Of Heart Studio in San Jose. He's a great teacher and the studio was the perfect environment for creating this mini journal made from a mini deck of cards.
Part of our homework, was to come with a deck of cards painted in black gesso. I choose to use a mini deck of cards, since I love to work with mini things!
Seth is from New York and it was such a treat to have him here in the Bay Area to teach us a class. You should definitely take a class from him if you get the chance.
The cards are just 1 1/2" x 2 1/2". We painted many layers onto the cards.
And made marks with some amazing items you wouldn't think to use.
 We stamped and stenciled...
And my favorite part, added some spatter to the cards.
Then it was time to collage. I finished only 10 cards, just 42 more to go!
Seth shared some great tips and tricks, it was such a fun class and I learned so much!
Thank you Andrea for hosting such a great class...I love your studio and had a wonderful day creating!

  1. What a great project using a mini deck of cards. I like the black gesso background with the acrylic paint mixed in. Your finished cards look fantastic, so varied. I like the one where you used washi tape on the left side with the
striped strip and the baby with the glasses. The dark background makes your
    subject stand out. Great work.

  2. My favorite is the Pierrot clown and the baby with the eyeglasses. What do you plan to do with them when you get them all completed? Maybe display as a necklace around a stone or wooden figure (like a Santos doll).

  6. Connie, that look so cool. Thank you for sharing this. Did you create the stamp you used that is circles with lines through them or did you draw those?

    1. Thank you for your comment. You have a good eye, that's one of my favorite stamps. It's from Prima and it's called Pebble - it's a clearn acrylic stamp. I bought it a couple years ago, hope you can find it.
